About Productive Dollar
Welcome to Productive Dollar! This app is designed to help you track your productivity and motivate you to improve your time management skills. With our unique virtual dollar system, you can monitor both productive and non-productive time while keeping a detailed log of your activities. It’s a great tool to stay accountable and improve your daily routines.
Key Features
1. Stopwatch Timer
Track your time with the Start Productivity and Stop Productivity buttons. The stopwatch will log the duration of your session, helping you monitor how much time you're spending on tasks.
2. Virtual Dollar System
Earn virtual dollars for every productive session you log! However, if you log a non-productive session, you'll accumulate virtual debt. This creates a system of accountability, encouraging you to stay productive and manage your time wisely.
3. Log System
Each time you stop the timer, you can submit a log entry that tracks:
- How much time you spent on the task
- Whether the session was productive or non-productive
- Notes or details about what you worked on
Your logs are stored locally in your browser for easy access and tracking.
4. Virtual Debt Management
For non-productive sessions, you accumulate virtual debt. Use your earned virtual dollars to pay down this debt. This system motivates you to stay productive, helping you "pay off" unproductive time by earning virtual dollars through productive work.
5. Exporting Logs
Productive Dollar lets you export your logs in various formats so you can easily review or share your progress:
- CSV
- Plain Text
- Excel
This feature makes it easy to track long-term progress and keep records of your productivity.
6. Deleting Log History
If you want to start fresh, you can delete your entire log history from the app. Be careful, as this action cannot be undone, and all your data will be permanently erased from your browser’s local storage.
Local Storage: What You Need to Know
Productive Dollar uses your browser's local storage to store your log entries, virtual dollars, and virtual debt. While local storage is a convenient way to keep your data, here are some important things to consider:
1. Data is Stored Locally
All data is saved directly on your device in your browser. This means:
- Data will not sync across multiple devices or browsers.
- Switching devices or clearing your browser data will delete your logs unless you export them first.
- There is no automatic cloud backup, so remember to export your logs if you want to keep a copy.
2. Clearing Browser Data Will Erase Your Logs
If you clear your browser's cache or data, your logs, virtual dollars, and debt will be permanently deleted. This includes browsing in incognito or private modes, which typically do not retain local storage between sessions.
3. Security and Privacy Concerns
Since local storage data is stored on your device, it is not encrypted by default. Consider the following:
- If other people use your device, they may have access to your logs and data.
- Local storage is not designed for storing sensitive personal information.
We recommend only using Productive Dollar on trusted devices and exporting your logs regularly to avoid data loss.
4. Storage Limits and Performance
Local storage has a maximum limit (usually around 5-10MB), which is more than sufficient for typical log entries. However, if you store large amounts of data, you may run into performance or storage issues. In this case, regularly exporting your logs can help manage space.
5. No Automatic Syncing Between Devices
If you're using Productive Dollar on multiple devices or browsers, your data will not sync automatically. You'll need to manually transfer data by exporting and importing logs if you want to maintain consistency across devices.
Protecting Your Data
- Regularly export your logs to ensure you have a backup in case of data loss.
- Avoid clearing your browser data unless you've exported your logs.
- Use trusted devices to avoid unauthorized access to your data.
